10 Must-Read X-Men Storylines

4. E Is For Extinction

Many comic book fans will say that Grant Morrison's run on the Batman & Robin is his finest superhero work to date, but his work on the X-Men is criminally underrated and could very well be on par with The Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder.

While this isn't the first time someone has attempted to kill all the mutants in the Marvel Universe (keep reading for more on that), newly introduced villain Cassandra Nova's destruction of the mutant filled island of Genosha is one of the most successful attempts at taking out a large of the population.

Although the story focuses heavily on the aftermath of the death of nearly every mutant on Genosha, the introduction of Nova is the most significant aspect of the story as she becomes an important and very personal villain for the X-Men.

Her powers as a telepath and her ability to take over bodies and use them as a host not only makes her arguably one of the X-Men's dangerous foes, but makes this important reading for any new fan who wants to catch up.
