10 Mutants Who QUIT The X-Men
8. Gambit
Remy LeBeau (cool name, even for a comic book character) was abandoned at birth. Due to his unusual red-on-black eyes, his parents assumed there was something satanic about him. Gambit eventually found his way to a street gang called Fagan's Mob. It was there that he learned the art of street thievery. And yes, street thievery is the technical term.
Gambit was later recruited into the X-Men by Storm. Gambit met a de-aged Storm who was, at the time, suffering from amnesia. He looked after her as the two traveled up the Gulf of Mexico, robbing people. When Storm restored to her usual self, she convinced Gambit to join the team.
During a battle with a psionic mutant called the Shadow King, Gambit met Rogue. The two didn't waste much time during their first encounter as they flirted a bit, got into a fight, and then made out with one another. Gambit and Rogue would go on to date frequently after that.
Later, the couple encountered a mutant named Vargus, who impaled both of them with a broadsword. The resulting injury saw both mutants temporarily losing their powers. So, the on-again-off-again love birds took the opportunity to retire from the X-men and move to California to sort out their romantic entanglement.
