10 Non-Superhero Comics You Didn't Know Were Becoming Films And TV Shows

9. Port Of Earth

Black Magick
Image Comics
"Imagine if aliens came to Earth not in war or peace, but with a business deal: open up a spaceport here on Earth in exchange for advanced technology."

This is the premise of Image Comics and Top Cow's Port of Earth, written by Zack Kaplan and illustrated by Andrea Mutti, but it doesn't quite dig into the fascinating social commentary this title presents, with capitalist interests taking precedence over human welfare, and the constant insistence of those profiting from the intergalactic deal that the port is good for the Earth, despite all evidence to the contrary.

A major part of the conflict comes from aliens passing through the port that cause harm to humanity, with the Earth Security Agents, armed with limited space weaponry, to hunt down rogue aliens.

It's a premise full of sci-fi potential, with Amazon and Skybound developing it for TV. Adapting it into a series would help flesh out an already fascinating world, with the Earth Security Agents having an almost Men-In-Black-esque job with alien of the week potential for serial storytelling, and perhaps delve more into The Consortium that opened negotiations between Earth and the galaxy in the first place.
