10 Outdated Superhero Costumes In Desperate Need Of A Redesign
1. Starfire
Some of Starfire’s looks seem like an experiment in how few clothes she can get away with wearing. Where Emma Frost would have inexplicable gaps, Starfire seemed more to decide on which tiny parts definitely needed covered and just left the rest blank.
Through the vast majority of her run, she’s had both her chest and midriff on constant display. With the New 52, it evolved so the only thing covered were the parts DC legally couldn’t show.
Like Iron Fist, her live action costume barely resembles the comics version. Likewise, in the kid friendly Teen Titans, she’s a lot more covered up and looks all the better for it. Similar to Lady Death, it’s not a case that any sexualisation is wrong and that all heroes need to be covered head to toe, but costumes this extreme just push the limits of believability.
The whole energy absorbed through her skin makes sense to a point, but are we just supposed to assume she has velcro nipples? Also, Superman’s powers are amplified by sunlight, yet he manages to do just fine with only his hands and face uncovered, making this particular outfit feel all the more unnecessary.
