In Legends, Tython, first mentioned in the 2007 novel, Darth Bane: Rule of Two, is arguably the most important planet for the Jedi. This is where the precursor to the order, the Je'daii, were founded.

Over 30,000 years before the events of the films, pilgrims travelled to the planet. Because Tython was strong in the Force, these pilgrims learnt how to utilise the Force, and eventually created the Je'daii Order, in which its members wanted to maintain balance and exiled anyone who drew on the Dark Side to one of the planet's moons, Bogan. 10,000 years later, The Force Wars began, which saw followers of the Light and Dark Sides battle one another on Tython. After the Light Side emerged victorious, the Jedi Order was formed and they abandoned the planet.

In canon, the ancient history of Tython has yet to be covered, but has made a few appearances around the events of the Original Trilogy. In 2016, the planet was seen in issue #40 of 2016's Doctor Aphra comic book, where the eponymous character took Darth Vader to the planet in search for the Rebel base. Tython made its live-action debut in The Mandalorian's second season, in which Din Djarin takes Grogu to the planet to reach out to Jedi, with it being revealed Grogu contacted Luke Skywalker.
