Slowly but surely, parts of the Old Republic Era, introduced in 2003's role-playing game (RPG) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), have gradually been finding their way back into canon.

Initially, Star Wars: The Clone Wars made several references to the era, including the Mandalorian Wars, the Sith home world Moraband (or Korriban), and the ocean-dwelling Selkath.

If anything, even more parts of the Old Republic have returned under Disney. Malachor V, first seen in 2004's KOTOR II: The Sith Lords, features in the second season of Star Wars: Rebels, with the Ghost's crew exploring the planet. Darth Revan, the Sith Lord who waged war against the Mandalorians and the Republic 4,000 years before the events of the films, is also mentioned in the 2022 novel, Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith, where cultists on Exegol chant his name.

Although the era itself hasn't appeared in canon yet, that is seemingly all going to change. In 2021, Sony announced that a remake of the classic RPG was in the works, with the fan-favourite Darth Revan taking centre stage in the teaser. Whilst the game has gone through a rough patch, with games developer Aspyr being pushed off the project, Embracer Group revealed the game is still being worked on in a year-end report that was published in May.
