10 Popular Comics Characters Imported From Other Media
4. Mercy Graves
First appearance: Batman: The Animated Series' sister Superman show has also left a legacy on the pages of DC comics. Created as a rather more formidable sidekick to Lex Luthor than the aforementioned Otis, Mercy Graves appeared as a street thief turned Luthor's badass personal chauffeur-cum-bodyguard in Superman: The Animated Series from 1996 (voiced by House's Lisa Edelstein).
Mercy proved a popular enough character to continue appearing in the DC Animated Universe, showing up in the likes of Justice League and Young Justice over the following years.
In the comics: Naturally, Mercy also appeared as Lex's bodyguard in the Superman Adventures comics that accompanied the animated series in 1996, but in 1999 she also began to appear in the mainstream DC comics continuity.
After first appearing in Detective Comics #735 in August 1999, a blonde (and, it would later transpire, Amazonian) Mercy became a semi-regular character as a LexCorp bodyguard. After the New 52 reboot, an Asian American Mercy has been introduced as Lex's PA.
And back again?: Both in the Animated Universe and the comics, Mercy has had a rivalry with Harley Quinn, so it should come as no surprise to see her making her live action movie debut around the same time. Trailers for next year's Batman V Superman have shown The Wolverine's Tao Okamoto as a version of Mercy obviously taking her look from her current comics equivalent. Whether there'll ever be a crossover point where she gets to face off with Harley in the DCEU remains to be seen.
