10 Questionable Actions Committed By Wolverine

9. Abandoning A Powerless Teammate

Knockingstorm

Seen In: Uncanny X-Men #215

In the wake of the Mutant Massacre event, the X-Men were in pretty bad shape. Several members were gravely injured in the battle, and the villain Malice, a psychic entity capable of possessing people, had nearly driven a wedge into what remained of the team. Wolverine had nearly killed Storm, thinking she was possessed, and his guilt caused him to retreat from the team.

Storm, ever the understanding team leader, told Wolverine that she needed to go on a mission upstate and that there's no one she trusts watching her back more than him. It should also be noted that during this period in the X-Men's history, Storm was stripped of her mutant ability to control the weather, increasing the need for said back-up. The mission was going to the home of Sara Grey, sister of Jean Grey (who the X-Men thought was dead, but was actually alive and had formed X-Factor with the rest of the original X-Men). Sara and her family had been unreachable and when Storm and Wolverine arrived, they found that her house had been burned to the ground (although no bodies). Logan could tell Sara hadn't been there in some time, but he picked up two other scents.

One was Cyclops', and the other was Jean's scent. But once Logan detected Jean's scent, he went berserk, knocked the powerless Storm unconscious, and then took off running on his own. Storm was then captured by a trio of mutants who fought in WW2 and passed their time by capturing criminals they found, then releasing them into the woods so they could hunt them. So Storm asks Wolverine to back her up because she trusts him, and the first chance he gets, he betrays that trust by knocking her unconscious and allowing her to be kidnapped by psychotic vigilantes.
