There's no disputing the Avengers has a roster of A-list talent. From Iron Man and Captain America to Spider-Man and Wolverine.

This has not always been the case, though. Back in the late nineties the Avengers line-up usually comprised of one or two big names and a collection of oddities and forgotten heroes.

Kang's invasion required every Avenger, past and present, to take up the fight. Usually, this would mean characters such as Stingray and Firestar appearing in the background or acting as cannon fodder. That was not the case during this story arc. Kurt Busiek sacrificed no character's presence or status to make the villains or other heroes feel like a bigger deal.

In a story where Jack of Hearts is as pivotal to the outcome as Iron Man or Wasp, is it any wonder 3D-Man saves all existence from a threat bigger than Kang?
