When you ask people to name the most significant Avengers era, the same answers come up repeatedly. Neal Adams, Roger Stern, Steve Engleheart and Brian Michael Bendis, to name a few, have all commanded acclaimed and lengthy stints on the main comic. However, the name that most often comes top of such a list is Kurt Busiek, along with his long-time collaborator, the legendary George Perez.

Initially, Marvel brought Busiek and Perez on board to resurrect the Avengers after the critical and commercial disaster that was Heroes Reborn. Fans reacted positively to the new creators "back to basics" approach and the return to a more classic era of Marvel's premiere super team.

Long gone were failed attempts to make the characters "extreme", awkward retellings of their origins and unnecessary crossovers to boost flagging sales.

The Kang Dynasty is the bookend to a run full of now-classic stories like Ultron Unlimited and Avengers Forever. The book would fall back into disarray after Busiek's departure, but his legacy on the Avengers cannot be overstated.
