Most times with comic book storylines on this kind of scale, they have been in development for several months or in some cases, even years. Plot threads and character arcs are setup in such a way that when the time comes, they all converge into a single event. One worthy of the marketing and hype most publishers will put behind it.

Suppose you were to hand someone a copy of House of M or Secret Wars 2015, and their only experience of the Avengers was through the big or small screen. There is a reasonably high chance that they would walk away from the book confused and generally disappointed, despite its quality.

The Kang Dynasty is one of those rare occasions when the reader requires very little prior knowledge to enjoy it. The story reads in such a way as to explain background events without relying on exposition dumps in dialogue.
