Wolverine has evolved since he was first introduced in The Incredible Hulk back in 1974. At first, he was a Canadian assassin who came at the Hulk, but over time, the character was changed to become a Mutant, but it wasn't long before he became one of the most popular Mutants in the Marvel Universe.

After decades, his origin story was finally told, and while that opened up the character to further development, it wasn't as important as Old Man Logan. the story of Old Man Logan was first told in Fantastic Four, but was finally fleshed out in the pages of Wolverine.

The story told the tale of a Wolverine far in the future... and a bleak future it turned out to be. Most of the heroes were all dead and the United States had been taken over by various factions of supervilains. The Western United States was run by the Hulk and his clan, but Wolverine was presented in much the same fashion as Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven: a man running away from his violent past.

Ultimately, Wolverine pops his claws after years of keeping them "sheathed," and he becomes a hero once more. The biggest impact Old Man Logan had on comics was the inspiration it provided for the film Logan. That movie helped close out Wolverine's cinematic run and opened up the prospect of an X-23 film.
