Kurt Wagner was a fan-favourite and constant member of the ever-shifting X-Men roster. At least, he was until Chuck Austen ruined him with a story line that revealed he was the actual son of the devil (or at least, a devil, called Azazel), amongst other things. That pretty much ruined Nightcrawler as a character which meant that, when he died at the hands of a robot arm through his chest when he teleported to an unfortunate location in the pages of Uncanny X-Force, not so many tears were shed. Thankfully, it wasn't long until tears (of hysterical laughter) accompanied his return. It turns out that getting out of heaven is a heck of a lot easier than getting in. At least, it is if you can teleport. Nightcrawler's BAMF-ing powers have always been a little vague, but they got a heck of a lot weirder when he apparently gained the ability to make tiny versions of himself on Earth to try and warn his X-Men pals his dad was planning a demonic invasion. Then he realised the portals the mini-hims were using could be passed through by anyone. So he did. He just sort of walked back into existence. Which was pretty underwhelming, along with being pretty ridiculous, come to think of it.
