10 Scariest Ever Batman Comics Stories
9. The Long Halloween
Alright, it's not so much outright scary as thoroughly spooky, but The Long Halloween's seasonal setting makes it vital reading this Samhain period. Inspired by the short stories of Haunted Knight, this twisted, turning slasher story employs almost all of the major rogues gallery, depicting the violent corruption of Harvey Dent.
The Bat's detective skills are put to excellent use as he attempts to track down a holiday-themed serial killer, offing his victims during holiday periods throughout the year. Not only does the story put Calendar Man back on the map (marking him as no longer a goofy joke) but it also sees the turning of Two-Face and has notable roles for the likes of Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Riddler... and the Joker.
Once again, Tim Sale's atmospheric artwork is put to good use; a dark and forboding Gotham City, genuinely chilling villains... and a version of Calendar Man who isn't totally ridiculous. Now that is scary.
