Batman: Faces is a three-part story arc that ran through issues #28-#30 of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight and was written and drawn by Matt Wagner. Harvey Dent, the villainous Two-Face, escaped Arkham Asylum and managed to escape Batman’s constant search for him for two years. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne attended a masquerade party where he agreed to buy an island from an acquaintance, Paul Durberville, with real estate agent Nelson Wren. However, another interested and mysterious party emerged, driving the price up.

It is discovered that Two-Face has gathered a group of people with physical deformities and is planning to create a nation for them away from the “perfect people.” Harvey kills several people before Batman and Commissioner Gordon can save them, much to the Caped Crusader’s frustration. Wren is convinced to side with the mysterious second buyer for a cut of the profits, and the buyer blackmails Durberville to sell him the island for one dollar.

Batman tracks down Two-Face to the chemical factory where he is hiding. Having kidnapped Wren and Durberville, Paul is shown to be hiding an extra set of hands growing from his torso. Two-Face attempted to take his “people” to their new nation via airship. However, they didn’t want to go. Many had been kidnapped and were happy in their previous lives. They turned against Two-Face, and Batman defeated Harvey and returned him to Arkham.
