10 Sci-Fi Movies That Deserve A Sequel
2. Minority Report
In 2002, Phillip K. Dick's The Minority Report laid the groundwork for a feature film starring Tom Cruise. He plays the police tactician John Anderton in 2054 Washington D.C.
The centrepiece of the film is a revolutionary new system that can predict crimes before they are even committed. When Anderton himself is singled out for a crime, he races to evade the authorities and uncover the cause of his predicament. When compared with Spielberg's other futuristic efforts, Minority Report is definitely the most abstract. The lighting is heavily exaggerated with the heavy use of white stamping its own identity onto every scene.
Far from being a brainless action movie, Minority Report features a compelling look into the ethics of privacy invasion and law enforcement. Its futuristic tech played a key role in making the narrative hit home.
Minority Report ended up foretelling much of the modern surveillance state. What could a sequel do with the leaps forward digital technology has made? Spy tech was once the stuff of science fiction, but now most of us carry a digital device that stores personal and important data. Nearly two decades, a sequel can surely take advantage of these changes.
