10 Shocking Times Comic Book Heroes REFUSED To Help

8. The Hulk Sat Out The Second Fight Against Thanos In The MCU

The Amazing Spider-Man #50

When Avengers: Infinity War kicked off, the Hulk went up against Thanos, but his possession of the Power Stone put the big green guy in his place. When he was sent by Heimdall to Earth, that was the last time the Hulk was seen in that form in the MCU.

In multiple instances, the Hulk refused to come forward when Bruce Banner tried to initiate the change. By the end of the movie, Banner was wearing the Hulkbuster Armor Tony originally designed to fight the Hulk, and that's how he stood his ground against Thanos and his forces.

The situation was fairly simple: the Hulk refused to fight, and no matter what Banner tried, he wouldn't come forth, even going so far as to yell "NO" during one attempted transformation. As it happens, the Hulk had a reason for refusing to help in the fight, as explained by director Joe Russo:

"So we thought an interesting direction to take him in is what if Banner, who typically uses the Hulk to solve crisis situations, what if the Hulk were no longer interested in solving those problems for Banner?"

The Hulk wasn't scared to fight, as some fans speculated, given his beating early in the movie. He was sick of doing Banner's dirty work.
