8. The Death Of Jean DeWolff

Spider Man Death Of Jean Dewolff
Marvel Comics

When NYPD police captain Jean DeWolff is murdered in her sleep, it takes the combined forces of Spider-Man and Daredevil to bring her killer to justice. With only a handful of people in authority believing that he is doing any good, Peter Parker takes the death of his friend hard and stops at nothing to make the Sin-Eater pay for his crime, which causes him to spiral out of control.

In fact, it takes Daredevil's intervention to stop him from making the biggest mistake of his life when, after finally cornering Sin-Eater, he beats him even after he has passed out.

This difference of opinion will see the two heroes fight it out, leaving a defeated Spider-Man harboring a grudge which will eventually manifest itself when Peter turns his back on Matt Murdock while he is trying to save Sin-Eater from a lynch mob. Sense prevails in the end, but Pete comes dangerously close to forgetting Uncle Ben's words of wisdom.

This book sees a darker version of Spider-Man battling his inner anger, and for that, it's worth a few hours of anyone's time.
