Another entry that received its own Batman: The Animated Series episode in the 1990s, in Joker’s Millions, the Clown Prince of Crime is left a fortune in the will of one of his enemies, King Barlowe. However, it’s soon revealed that this was a clever prank by Barlowe.

The Joker instantly begins to spend lavishly, living the rich life, and buying anything that comes to mind. However, the Joker would soon learn that Barlowe had tricked him, with the Clown Prince of Crime learning that most of the money Barlowe left him was fake.

To avoid revealing that he had been tricked, the Joker commits crimes so that he can pay the huge tax bill the IRS demands. While the Joker could've easily declared to the IRS that he hadn't actually received the amount of money he originally believed he had, the Joker's ego would not allow for him to be made a fool of in such a manner.
