Comics can be really weird, and really awesome at the exact same time. For example, the Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Introduced in the Thanos Wins storyline, Cosmic Ghost Rider's backstory is strange and tragic. In an alternate future, Thanos destroyed the Earth, killing everyone on it, including Frank. Frank's soul immediately went to Hell, and he struck a deal with Mephisto to become the new Ghost Rider in order to get revenge on Thanos.

However, by the time he got back, Thanos was gone, and Frank was forced to travel the wastelands of Earth alone for a very long time, causing him to lose his mind.

Eventually though, Galactus came to Earth to get help against the growing power of Thanos, but only found Frank. Taking what help he could get, Galactus gave him the power cosmic, and turned the Ghost Rider into a Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Eventually, Cosmic Ghost Rider found his way to the main 616 universe, where he now travels around in space, trying to find a place in a world that's not his.
