10 Superhero Comic Deaths (That Didn't Mean Anything)

7. Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan was the first official Green Lantern (Alan Scott was called Green Lantern, but his ring was not the same as the power rings used by the Green Lantern Corps). Hal was a pilot who received the ring after coming into contact with a dying alien. Then, BAM, he€™s one of the guardians of the universe with his €œwill€ powered ring. Flash forward to the €˜90s, and we get the Death and Return of Superman stories. During this event, Cyborg Superman destroys Coast City, which is the home of Green Lantern. Obviously, this does not do great things to the psyche of Hal Jordan. He loses his mind and tries to "fix" the situation. It does not go well. He kills other Green Lanterns, including Sinestro, during his rampage. Oh, and he's possessed by Parallax, a yellow (which means evil) entity. But, ultimately, after attacking off and on for years, Hal meets his end reigniting Earth's sun after it was almost collapsed by a Sun-Eater. A strange ending for the former hero. Hal becomes The Spectre for a time, roaming the DCU as a Spirit of God's Vengeance. During Hal's absence, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner and Guy Garner took over and became the new faces of the Green Lantern Corps. But Hal would eventually resurface and become the main GL after Geoff Johns took over. Hal becomes a Green Lantern again; a hero. Though Johns crafts a great story, many will not forget when Hal wreaked havoc across the DC books.
