10 Superheroes Screwed Over By Reboots

8. The Punisher

Flash Reboot
Marvel Comics

With the inherently kinda Yikes nature of The Punisher acting as a constant albatross around the character's neck, several writers have tried to find the right spin on him to make it all work better for a modern audience. On the good side of the spectrum we have stuff like the Garth Ennis run, while on the polar opposite end, we have... Punisher Purgatory.

After The Punisher dies yet again, the powers that be decide to bring him back... as an avenging angel of Heaven.

A stretch? Oh definitely, but hey, good writers have made mountains out of less material. Shame then that the writers who kicked off this reboot of the character had basically no idea what to do with him now that they had sprung this new idea on him. Just your typical Punisher shenaniganry, just with an incredibly tacked on supernatural twist.

It could have worked under better writers (as much as anything can), but it's no surprise that The Punisher needed Garth Ennis to come along in order to drag him out of the hellfire.
