10 Superheroes Who Broke Bad
5. Sentry
Look, up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a copyright infringement claim waiting to happen? No, it's the Sentry!
When Robert Reynolds drank a strange serum, he gained the "power of a million exploding suns" (which conveniently happens to resemble a certain Man of Steel's powers) and became one of Marvel's strongest heroes.
Unfortunately, while Sentry's body was incredibly strong, his mind wasn't. Robert was plagued by issues of insecurity, issues which his vast powers warped into an evil split personality called the Void. With the help of the Avengers, Sentry seemed to manage to overcome his issues, but that would change following the Skrull invasion of Earth.
Norman Osborn, the former Green Goblin, was instrumental in stopping the invasion and was rewarded by being made commander of S.H.I.E.L.D. Osborn also used his powers to make a new team of Avengers, one filled with supervillains like Bullseye and Ares, but also kept on the Sentry.
Osborn manipulated Robert's weak mind, pushing him to take more violent actions in the field. This also allowed the Void to take more control though. During the Siege of Asgard, the Void fully took over. He tore Ares in half and nearly killed everyone else there. The heroes were saved though, when Robert was able to take back control just long enough to beg Thor to kill him.
