10 Superheroes Who Broke Bad
4. Reed Richards
It was practically a running joke in Marvel's What If series that any time Sue Storm left Reed Richards, he would almost immediately become a villain. The Ultimate Universe played this idea out to its full potential.
The Ultimate Mr. Fantastic is a teen genius who was recruited to join a team of other brilliant young minds. When an experiment goes wrong, four of them gain superpowers and become the Fantastic Four.
Like a lot of the Ultimate Universe, the Fantastic Four were hit hard by Ultimatum (which wasn't a story so much as a gratuitous murder-fest). The Baxter Building was destroyed by a flood, which also killed Sue and Johnny's father. Following this, the team disbanded and Sue broke off her relationship with Reed.
Cut off from his friends, Reed sank into a deep depression, eventually deciding he was going to do whatever it took to improve the world. After a failed attempt to ally with an alien invasion, Reed appeared as Maker in the redundantly titled Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates. Maker destroyed a large part of Europe to build his technologically advanced city and sent his creations, The Children of Tomorrow, to Asgard to wipe out all its gods there.
Following 'Secret Wars', Maker crossed over into the main Marvel Universe and battled the New Avengers.
