10 Superman Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die
5. Public Enemies
When DC launched 'The World's Finest' in 2003, they gave the job to Jeph Loeb in what would prove to be a masterstroke.
Having already proved himself with 'The Long Halloween', as well as having had a great run with Superman Vol 2, he set about teaming DC's two biggest icons together in a series that would see them team up to defeat all kinds of evil. But it would be his first six issues, known as 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies', that marked this book out as something special.
With a kryptonite asteroid heading towards earth, President Luthor declares that it's all Superman's fault and offers a billion dollars to anyone who can bring him - and Batman! - to justice. This sees all sorts of super-powered heroes and villains try to claim the bounty, but when they all fail, it's left to Lex to try and finish them off.
This would set a tone for Loeb's future work on 'World's Finest', and even though there would be some great moments after he left, the writer's initial run was easily the best.
