10 Surprising Comic Book Crossovers That Somehow Work

1. Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

When you think of comic book characters similar to Batman, your first thought isn't likely to be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That might be because people tend to forget that they were originally comic book characters to begin with, but still, tonally, the two properties couldn't be further apart. Right?

Well, that's not entirely true either. Batman has been through so many moods, shapes and sizes that he's actually a pretty malleable figure, and that goes double for Gotham itself. Once you factor in that the Dark Knight is also pretty much a ninja himself, it makes perfect sense that his paths would cross with the Heroes in a Half-Shell at some point or another.

And cross they did, in 2015's Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Co-published by IDW and DC, the comic was written by recurring Batman scribe James Tynion IV with art from Freddie Williams II, and it was so successful that it went on to inspire sequels, spin-offs, and an aforementioned animated movie.

It's so completely off the wall, but anyone who says they don't want to see the Caped Crusader face off against the Shredder is just flat out lying.
