10 Surprising Comic Book Crossovers That Somehow Work

8. Batman Versus Predator

To this date, there isn't a cinematic genre that's been involved in more comic book crossovers than the horror one. Whether it's Freddy vs. Jason, or just about every other slasher variation you can think of, if there's a horror icon out there, chances are they've battled with another in a certain comic.

Alien vs. Predator actually started out in the pages of Dark Horse Comics, but while that would be the only crossover to get the big screen treatment, the publisher wouldn't stop there. The alien hunter would head to Riverdale in the pages of Archie Comics, fend of against Witchblade in MindHunter, and Batman on no less than three separate occasions.

The first comic, written by frequent Alan Moore collaborator Dave Gibbons, is by far the best, but later follow-ups would also be helmed by Batman legend Chuck Dixon.

The premise is fairly self-explanatory. After a series of grisly murders in Gotham whereby the victims' skulls and spines were removed, Batman opens an investigation which takes him right to the doorstep of the Predator. He barely survives the first encounter, but the rematch illustrates the Dark Knight's tactical acumen and then some.

The idea of pitting the World's Greatest Detective against one of cinema's greatest creatures might seem a little out there - and it is - but the end result is way too fun to ignore.
