10 Terrible Comic Book Moments That Could Have Been Saved With One Simple Twist

5. The Goddamn Batman

Of all of the various simply weird happenings in All-Star Batman and Robin - including Batman setting people on fire and then sleeping with Black Canary next to the carnage, him mistreating Robin and making him eat rats, and just about every line of dialogue - the most cringe-inducing moment has to be one infamous monologue.

Although we all find it a bit cool when Bruce calls himself the "goddamn Batman", there is a definite line between this kind of language being cool, and being totally ridiculous. So, when All-Star saw Gotham's protector say his "goddamn car" was the "goddamn batmobile" and then repeat this kind of nonsense five times, it marked the official point plenty of us put the comic down for good.

This is partially because it was a sign of the weirdness to come in the series, but also a sign of the biggest issue with All-Star Batman, in that it can't seem to decide whether it's a parody or satire or not.

If it'd gone fully comedy, mocking the grim dark sulkings of Batman? Cool! If it'd been a short line of Bats genuinely grousing about his car? Also cool! It's the fact it tries to be both that ultimately makes it neither.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
