10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The Avengers For Everyone

10. Disassembled

We may as well go in all guns blazing, with one of the most controversial storylines in Avengers history to this day. Tired of hanging around for the Cinematic Universe to take off or just for people to actually give the Avengers book any attention full stop, Marvel made the extreme decision to just completely get rid of the team and start again. Unlike their Distinguished Competition, however, Marvel don't do reboots by totally overhauling their continuity. No, they do it by murdering a load of fan-favourite characters, cancelling their favourite book, and then expecting them to spend their money on new things instead. Drafting in the phenomenally popular Brian Michael Bendis, who had been a trustworthy captain of Ultimate Spider-Man for over a hundred issues and would go on to helm many of the company's biggest crossover events, to pen what was dubbed Avengers Disassembled. It begins with a deceased ex-Avenger, Jack of Hearts arriving at the Avengers Mansion and promptly exploding, killing Ant-Man, and sorta goes downhill from there. When the smoke cleared the Vision and Hawkeye are dead, Scarlet Witch is in a catatonic state and Tony Stark is broke. It affected the Avengers to the degree that they've only recently - some seven years on - returned to a cohesive team. With all the dead people resurrected. Phew.
