10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The Avengers For Everyone
4. Inviting Hank Pym Back
Hank Pym is history's greatest monster. At least he is in the Marvel Universe, a constant thorn in the side of everybody - and yet also a long-term member of the Avengers and a super genius who has save the world and inspired new heroes numerous times. Boasting an intellect comparable (or possibly even surpassing, if you ask him) that of Reed Richards or Tony Stark, Pym has nonetheless struggled to pin down a lasting alter ego. Over the years he's been Ant-Man, Giant Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, and even nabbed his ex-wife's moniker Wasp for himself. Oh yeah, and she's his ex-wife because he's a violent narcissist who has beaten his former spouse on numerous occasions. Plus the Ultron thing, which is perhaps his most egregious crime against his own Avengers teammates. Attempting to create the first self-aware artificial intelligence, the hubris of Pym lead him to implanting his own rampant ego into the robot that became Ultron, the recurring and most fervent enemy of the Avengers. In fact accepting Pym back despite all of his mistakes almost literally ruined the Avengers, as the Age Of Ultron miniseries showed us a future utterly destroyed by his creation - it's only with some time travelling escapades and mulling over whether they should just go back in time and murder Hank before he invents the villain that it all gets sorted.
