Diagnosed with a rare disease curable only by extreme microscopic intervention, The Atom accepts the mission to enter the Joker’s brain via his ear canal and administer the treatment.
Once inside, however, things take a terrible turn.
Having already been informed by the medical team that he may witness some of the Joker’s memories whilst inside his brain, The Atom was not prepared for the level of depravity to which he bore witness.
Immersed in Joker’s childhood memories, The Atom witnessed playground violence culminating in the child who would be Joker splitting open another kid’s head with zero remorse.
He saw the killing of animals by the troubled youngster, and watched in horror as, whilst arguing about the monster their son was becoming, Joker’s parents were burned alive inside their locked home by none other than… well, you can probably guess.
Later memories saw the Joker as a young man turn a simple robbery into a murder scene and, when his horrified partner in crime showed his shock and disgust at this escalation, he unflinchingly kills him too.
Perhaps worst of all for The Atom, having administered the life-saving treatment to the pale-faced psychopath, he throws his hands over his mouth in horror as he unwittingly utters the same words said by the young Joker in a violent memory.
