Rather humorously, in Doctor Strange's early days back in the 1960s, the character became a huge hit with stoners! In Tom Wolfe's brilliant (and extremely culturally important) 1960s book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Ken Kesey - a very famous experimental drug user - famously talked about how much he and his cohort loved reading Strange's exploits whilst high as kites. It was all to do with the vivid colours and far out concepts that the character's stories so often included. In fact, taking things a step further, the guys who were actually working on the Doctor Strange series in the 1970s were constantly dropping acid! Sean Howe's Marvel Comics: The Untold Story tells of some truly bizarre tales about how LSD had a major effect on the content of Strange's comics.
