Or at least one version did. The standard version of Nick Fury has been known to use strong language occasionally, but the MAX version - who was created by Garth Ennis for a six-issue miniseries and later appeared in Ennis's Punisher MAX series - was completely and utterly foul-mouthed beyond almost anything Marvel have published before. In every single one of his appearances he drank heavily, smoked heavily, had sex with hookers, disobeyed orders, beat people up, complained about how he was seeing very little combat, complained about how he thought modern society was pathetic and, most emphatically, he swore a hell of a lot. This particular version was undoubtedly quite entertaining, tough as nails and suited the "MAX" label rather well, but it drew notable criticism from Marvel bigwig Stan Lee himself, with Lee being very open about the fact that he was actually quite disgusted by it.
