Most people associate Nick Fury with tactics and strategy, but very few people think he is so good at being prepared for almost anything - but by God he is. Whatever technology S.H.I.E.L.D creates, Nick ensures that he gets a copy for himself. He stashes it away and therefore has every single thing S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever created at his disposal at any given point - and that includes the fact that he stole a Helicarrier for himself during the Secret Warriors arc. As S.H.I.E.L.Ds director, Fury also has access to world monitoring satellite lasers, which means he can monitor any preparation that an Earth-based foe is carrying out in order to counter it. Plus, with espionage and combat strategy training from the military, S.H.I.E.L.D and the C.I.A to utilise, as well as a wealth of experience that dates back to World War II, he really is almost superhuman with regards to his basic planning skills. Take the Age of Ultron arc as an example - he was found in a safehouse in the middle of the Savage Land in Antarctica utilising a Time Platform created by Doctor Doom in order to go back in time to prevent Ultron from being created in the first place. Basically, Fury has a counter to anything the world throws at him and often refers back to a contingency he made fifty or so years ago to stop a current threat - and that's incredible.
