Hush was a storyline which nearly bought Batman to his knees. During the 12 issue miniseries The Riddler used a Lazarus Pit to cure himself of cancer, but during his time in the Lazarus Pit he managed to deduce who Batmans true identity was. Only a handful of people in the DC Comics Universe are aware of the man behind the cowl for E.Nigma to have worked this out presented Batman with a huge problem. In order to keep The Riddler silent on this matter, Batman devised a genius plan he asked The Riddler what the use of a riddle is if everyone knew the answer. The question obsessed villain was effectively silenced by this, although the realisation that releasing the information would bring the onslaught of Ras Al Ghul and the League of Assassins onto him acted as a secondary motive. Knowing that Batman was actually Bruce Wayne puts The Riddler into an extremely exclusive group only close confidants are privileged enough to know this information, and the fact that The Riddler kept this information to himself is a testament to his conviction he is truly obsessed with puzzles, and he would not give up this potentially lucrative information for the sake of keeping the puzzle alive.
