10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Harley Quinn
6. She’s Always The Villain
Though she did start out as a villain, it would be massively underselling the character to think that’s all she is. As previously discussed, she’s obviously being manipulated by the Joker right from the start, meaning it’s easier to absolve her of her sins that it would be for other villains.
She doesn’t just rely on this get out of jail free card though. In the cartoons and comics, she’s morphed into an anti-hero of sorts, never quite turning into a complete good guy, but usually working towards the greater good. Also, she’s shown varying amounts of contrition over the years, usually in arcs connected to her realisation that the Joker has never truly loved her.
Suicide Squad is probably the best known example of Harley turning away from the dark side, but even there she’s heavily motivated by the bomb collar around her neck. Added to that, she isn’t exactly an angel in the Squad, especially in their more extreme comic book moments.
All in all though, some selfless acts in Suicide Squad plus her solo arcs show that she’s definitely not the complete villain some people believe her to be. Most frequently these days, she operates almost like Deadpool, as a hero, but not quite.
