10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Wolverine

2. His Name Is Logan

Perhaps one of the greatest misunderstood things in the history of Wolverine is his name. It's not Logan. Another of the big revelations from Origin was a bait-and-switch, since the series starts Thomas Logan, the cruel groundskeeper of a rich family's estate who looks a lot like an adult Wolverine, and his son Dog. The heavy implication is that either Dog or Thomas will turn out to be Wolverine, but instead he turns out to be the sickly James Howlett Jr, the son of the rich plantation owner for whom Thomas works. And whom Thomas kills, prompting Jr's bone claws to unleash themselves for the first time, much to everyone's horror. It's also implied that Jr's deceased older brother had similar claws, with his crazy old mother rejecting him with a curt "not you too!" After killing Thomas and injuring Dog James scarpers, his healing factor apparently wiping out the traumatic memories of doing so. His fancy lady Rose comes along to to help out as he flees the country, which is when she starts calling him Logan. Which is actually pretty cold, considering that's the name of the guy he'd just seen kill his dad. Anyway, eventually the James Howlett Jr moniker got forgotten altogether (he's had a lot of memory wipes, remember), and Logan was the default title. Not the correct one.
