10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Wolverine
6. His Love For Jean Grey
Another untruth that has been perpetuated by the X-Men films especially is the depths of the romance between Wolverine and Jean Grey. The love triangle between those two and Cyclops has never made sense, especially with the way it's rendered on-screen: why would the choice between moody, hunky Hugh Jackman and wet blanket James Marsden be a choice at all? The producers agreed, and killed Scott Summers off-screen at the start of The Last Stand, leaving the fiery relationship between Jean and Logan to take precedence. Except that's totally not how it began in the comics at all. Logan's burgeoning feelings for Jean were nipped in the bud fairly early when it turned out how serious she was about Scott. Wolverine is an honourable fellow, who follows a samurai-alike code of ethics which almost certainly doesn't have room for fancying one of his mate's spouses. In fact the issue where Cyclops and Phoenix finally tie the knot involved Wolverine finally coming to terms with the fact that he was going to stop perusing Jean, being genuinely happy for the married couple, and giving advice to a sulking Charles Xavier whose feelings for Jean were very real, and very creepy.
