3. She Couldn't Carry A Film
DC ComicsIn fact we've made this
very argument ourselves on
more than one occasion. Until recently it seemed like this was the view of her own publishers, too, as DC (and their parent company Warner Bros.) have failed to make a Wonder Woman movie after sixty odd years of her being around, instead leaving Superman and Batman to clean up in the box office time and again. Not that we'll repeat the "ha and Marvel are doing a film about a talking raccoon!" argument since that is silly. Black Widow doesn't have her own film yet either, does she? And she definitely deserves one. As does Diana Prince. We can't honestly think of why she hasn't got when yet, either, since there's been plenty of opportunities and times they could've capitalised on her as a character. Perhaps the biggest recent example was when Joss Whedon, fresh off of producing stories about awesome female action heroes in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, was reportedly developing a Wonder Woman movie. For whatever reason it never got off the ground, and we're unlikely to ever see what his version of the film might be. Even after a supposedly legit schedule for DC's movie releases was leaked, suggesting that we would finally be getting a Wonder Woman movie sometime in 2017, people were skeptical. Can she carry a film on her own? Will people actually go and see a Wonder Woman film? Well, let's counter those questions with a couple of her own: Why wouldn't she be able to carry a solo film? And why wouldn't people want to a see a movie, say, based off of Azzarello and Chiang's recent storylines, with Gal Gadot playing a superpowerful goddess beating the gunk out of various mythological beasties? That sounds pretty amazing to us!
