10 Things From DC Comics That REALLY Haven't Aged Well
1. Incorporated Fanart Going Uncredited In DC's RWBY Comic
While it might be strange not to see the last entry here at number, this recent development nevertheless deserves top billing because it harkens back to the early years of DC Comics, where people like Bill Finger went uncredited.
Back in 2015, a YouTuber named Chris Lee created a concept design for a RWBY weapon called the Dust Trivolver gun. Four years later, this design would be seen again as in the fifth issue of a RWBY spin-off comic that was created as a collaboration between Rooster Teeth and DC Comics.
Anyone looking at the illustration and Lee’s design can see that the two are identical, even though there wasn't any credit given to the original artist who had designed the weapon. This is a bit odd too, considering that the RWBY franchise has given credit before for other fan-designs that were previously used in the show.
Rooster Teeth did eventually address the design similarity on October 29th, 2019, to which they explained that they've corrected this mistake by changing the illustration.
Even though DC was not entirely at fault here, it doesn't mean either that they can’t learn from this mistake overall. It's always important that companies don’t ignore the moments where they're clearly in the wrong, and really, it's all the more better for them in the long run when they do.
