10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Guardians Of The Galaxy
8. Ronan The Accuser Is An Okay Guy
Lee Pace and his eyebrows had the unenviable task of starring against the Guardians Of The Galaxy in their big screen debut as Ronan The Accuser, the fundamentalist Kree terrorist who was threatening peace on the Nova Corps home world Xandar. Unenviable because, whilst everybody else gets to be quippy and fun, he has to be all stoic and evil. Which he undoubtedly is; there's not a single moment in the film where we feel in any way sympathetic of his mission to kill a load of innocent people. To be honest, we're still not entirely certain on the details of why he wants to wipe out the entire population of a planet but, well, each to their own. We just know he's a Bad Dude. Which is only half-right in the comic books. The Kree barely get a look-in during Guardians Of The Galaxy but in the comics they've been one of the most enduring cosmic elements of the Marvel Universe, making their first appearance in the sixties and being a constant presence ever since. Ronan himself has been around since 1967, when he debuted in an issue of Fantastic Four and...well, he was kind of a Bad Dude there, too. That's an oversimplification of the character and where he's ended up, though, as over time he has slowly become more noble and heroic, being the Kree Emperor and having to make some tough decisions to protect his people and the universe as a whole. A bit morally iffy, sure, but not totally evil.
