10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About The Hulk

7. He Was Originally A Sort Of Werewolf

Marvel Comics

The Hulk's whole schtick is his Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde-style split personality. Bruce Banner is a mild-mannered, mostly peaceful scientist; The Hulk is a big, violent brute with a poor vocabulary and fiery temper. Arguably the one thing everybody knows about the character is that Bruce transforms into The Hulk when he gets angry.

Despite being the most iconic trait of The Hulk, the whole “anger” thing wasn't there in his early appearances. No, at first Banner transformed into the Hulk at sunset and reverted at sunrise, like he was some sort of weird angry werewolf. Even that didn't didn't last long until Stan Lee moved onto another status quo for Bruce/Bob Banner....

...Which also wasn't “he transforms when he gets angry”. In his fourth appearance he was cured, but chose to get bombarded with gamma radiation again, which he had to do every time he transformed for the final two issues of his original series. And when he returned to normal he was deathly sick, because of radiation poisoning.
