10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About The X-Men
7. Professor Xavier Loves Jean Grey
Charles Xavier is a wise, older, psychic, and bald mentor to the X-Men. Even though he hasn’t always led the group, Xavier is still seen as a father-figure to a lot of the heroic mutants.
In 1964, a panel showed Xavier’s inner-monologue where his thoughts confessed his love for the underage Jean Grey. Gross. No other writer touched on this until the Onslaught Saga event kicked off in 1996.
During the story arc Fatal Attractions, Xavier wiped the mind of Magneto. This would lead into the dark consciousness of the two forming Onslaught. During the Onslaught Saga, Onslaught met Jean Grey on the astral plane as he was looking for sources of power. He had hoped the avatar of the Phoenix Force, Jean Grey, would join him on his crusade. He showed her what her mentor and father-figure really felt for her in those early X-Men days.
Jean didn’t react too well and instigated a battle with Onslaught. Onslaught ended up defeating Jean and forced her astral form back into her body. He also wiped the experience of what had happened from Jean’s mind.
If Onslaught asked, Jean would have asked him to wipe that memory away anyway. A lot of readers would like to forget it as well.
