10 Things That Will Never Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe

6. Hal Jordan Breaks Bad

Hal Jordan, Silver Age Green Lantern and arguably the best-loved to ever wear that green ring, will almost certainly factor into DC's plans for their shared universe despite the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern fiasco of a few years ago. Regardless of which Green Lantern appears first - considering John Stewart or even Alan Scott could pop up - Jordan will get his due soon enough. One of the more famous (or infamous, depending on who you ask) Hal Jordan storylines concerns his transformation into the villainous Parallax. Driven to insanity by the destruction of his hometown of Coast City - along with 7 million inhabitants - Jordan believes he can harness the power of the entire Green Lantern Corps and restore Coast City permanently. To attain this power, Hal basically goes on a killing spree. Like Batman's insanity revealed by a laugh with the Joker, taking Green Lantern to the brink is counterintuitive in a film universe. In comics - which have extensive, malleable continuities that are regularly reset, retconned, and sometimes forgotten - events like this are much more acceptable. When half a billion dollars, the reputation of a major film studio, and an actor's livelihood are all on the line, there's less of an inclination to essentially destroy your heroic protagonist and make way for a new one.
