10 Things That Will Never Happen In The DC Cinematic Universe
7. Batman And The Joker Laugh Together
Alan Moore is possibly the most recognizable name in comics, having turned out such seminal classics as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Like most comic book writers of such stature, it was only a matter of time before Moore got ahold of the Dark Knight in a book of his own: 1988's The Killing Joke. Aside from featuring a pseudo-origin for the man that would become The Joker, The Killing Joke features several of Batman's darkest moments - the most memorable of these may be the physical and emotional torture of Commissioner James Gordon and the shooting of his daughter Barbara. But the final pages of Moore's Bat-book are confoundingly ambiguous: The Joker tells a long and winding joke, and Batman slowly begins to smile. By the final page the two of them are in stitches together like old pals. Various theories hold that Batman kills Joker on the last page, or offer explanations for why Bruce would allow his cold exterior to crack in this particular instance. The entire scene is extremely uncomfortable, mainly because of the awful things we've just witnessed Joker do. Batman - our "hero" - is now sharing a fit of laughter with a homicidal maniac. There's little doubt that the Joker will eventually find his way into the DC Cinematic Universe, but Ben Affleck's Batman won't be recreating this iconic scene with him. For the same reason that Hollywood won't cause controversy with an R rating, scenes like this paint too dark a picture for mainstream audiences to handle.
