Sure, the Ben Affleck movie was mostly crummy, but there were some bright spots. Affleck was actually pretty good casting as Daredevil, Michael Clarke Duncan was absolutely perfect as the Kingpin, they made a concerted effort to put Frank Miller's classic run on the big screen, and that Evanescence song is total guilty pleasure. Apart from that, it was a totally middle-of-the-road attempt at a superhero film in the pre-MCU era. A dark time indeed. There is a small, dedicated group that will insist that Mark Steven Johnson's semi-failure is actually pretty good. They'll usually qualify that by telling you that the true version of 2003's Daredevil is the director's cut. Which, admittedly, is an almost entirely different film, with the addition of an entire new storyline. A storyline that involved Gangsta's Paradise singer Coolio as a hitman, sure, but it also got rid of a lot of the terrible nu metal, the origin story is improved, and the violence feels more suited to the darker tone than a goofy superhero flick.
