Riri Williams accepted the offer from MIT to have her own laboratory space to work on her creations. While there, she began to create a new AI for her armour but was called away to deal with the villain Clash. When Riri returned, she found that the AI had completed itself by scanning her brainwaves. The AI took the form of a teenage version of her slain childhood friend, Natalie Washington. Calling the AI the Neuro-Autonomous Technical Assistant and Laboratory Intelligence Entity, Ironheart called her new AI assistant N.A.T.A.L.I.E.

NATALIE and Riri argued when they uncovered a hack by disgruntled former Stark Unlimited employee Andre Sims. The AI wanted to confront him, but Ironheart had been forced to hang up her armour with the enactment of the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act. NATALIE developed a glitch when she entered Sim’s software to sabotage him. It made the AI more violent and she hijacked the Ironheart armour to attack Sims. Riri stopped her in time.

Riri sent NATALIE to provide security for a secret meeting of teen heroes in New York City. The meeting's location was compromised by Viv Vision and was overrun by CRADLE agents. It was NATALIE who provided a way for a few of the heroes to escape custody and make their way to Riri's home in Chicago.
