1. He Was Batman On Two Seperate Occasions
Not once, but twice has Nightwing become the Dark Knight.
If you haven't read Batman: Knightfall, you have probably at least seen Bane iconically "Break The Bat" in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. But during the "Prodigal" storyline that takes place right after Knightfall, Dick Grayson takes over as Batman in Bruce's place instead of a plot driven recovery. During this time, Dick corrected some of his past mistakes as Robin such as confronting Two-Face and finally empathizing with the responsibility of being Batman.
In the aftermath of Final Crisis, Nightwing became Batman again following Bruce's apparent death, forming a new incarnation of the Dynamic Duo with the current Robin, Damien Wayne. Their relationship turns the traditional Batman and Robin personality roles with Dick being a more lighthearted Batman and Damien being a more intense and dark Robin.
Bruce returned once again to reclaim his throne as the Dark Knight immediately after this short run, but both instances together show that Nightwing has become much more than just a pretty boy former sidekick.
