6. His Secret Identity Was Revealed To The World (and He Died)
In Forever Evil, Dick Grayson was captured by Superwoman and Owlman of the Crime Syndicate - an evil version of the Justice League from Earth-3. These guys beat Grayson to a bloody pulp and unmasked him live on nationally broadcasted television.
They then strapped him to the "Murder Machine": a detonator for a bomb that could only be disarmed if Dick's heart stopped beating. Lex Luthor prevented Batman from saving Grayson, allowing him to die in the process.
After Bats and Luthor engaged in fisticuffs over the ordeal, the latter managed to revive Grayson to the delight of the readers. However, this wasn't the only time the writers had the idea of a dead Prodigal son...
