The Mighty Thor Jane Foster Death
Marvel Comics

In The Mighty Thor #704, Jane learned that Asgardia was hurtling toward the Sun due to the actions of Mangog. She transformed into the Mighty Thor to confront him, though received a terrible beating from Mangog and finally tried to throw him into the Sun, but he made his way back to Asgardia to continue his path of destruction.

Seeing no other way to defeat the monster, Thor took the chains that had bound Fenris Wolf to bind Mangog, tied the other end to Mjolnir, and hurled the hammer into the Sun. As the hammer disintegrated, Thor reverted back to Jane and gave Odinson a final kiss before cancer took her life.

Unwilling to accept her fate, Odinson flew Jane’s body to the Blue Area of the Moon, where the rest of the Asgardia refugees had fled. Thor called upon the God Tempest, an Elder God that Odin trapped within Mjolnir, to resurrect Jane Foster. Odin joined his son in his efforts but it was up to Jane to come back from Valhalla. She returned and went through the full range of chemotherapy again, finally putting her cancer in remission. Jane also encouraged Odinson to reclaim his name and continue the fight in the War of the Realms.
